GOAT RANCHER – West African Dwarf Goats

I became a “long distance” goat rancher in 2014, in a short while I accumulated about 16 African Pygmy goats. My goal is to become a commercial goat rancher. In preparation I have taken courses at numerous Universities, with the USDA and acquired a wealth of information from The American Goat Society and other academic sources. Apparently, all the information and training I acquired did not prepared me for the “human factor’: daily management practices by hired labor. I learned quickly that Choosing the appropriate management team for goat rearing is crucial to the success of a goat rancher.

By 2016 I practically lost my entire herd due to workers intransigence and theft.

My new-found goal with guidance from a local academic institution supported by the Goat Industry has provided me an excellent publication. This publication addresses issues of assessment and identification of a goat management support team. The publication has prepared me to resume goat ranching this year.

I will keep you updated.
